Evaluation Of Process And Formulation Parameters On The Production Of Nanosuspensions
Application Note: Evaluation Of Process And Formulation Parameters On The Production Of Nanosuspensions
Objective
The objectives of this study were to assess the Cosmo® Couette Perl Mill® with regards to: evaluating select formulation and process parameters on the
production of prednisolone nanosuspension, the feasibility of nanosizing Carbamazepine, and contaminants leaching from the mill.
Introduction
The Cosmo® Couette Perl Mill® is a small-volume gap mill featuring internal
grinding media (ceramic beads) recirculation.
The mill has a hollow-cylinder rotor with a smooth outer and smooth inner working surface. The rotor is driven from the top and rotates in a strator housing featuring a smooth outer and inner working surface. Product and grinding media flow through the outer grinding gap from top to bottom and through the subsequent inner grinding gap from bottom to top. By centrifugal force the grinding media is returned through the openings in the rotor to an antechamber above the outer grinding gap. The product passes through the large-surface cylindrical protective screen above the inner grinding gap and is discharged downwards through the central pipe.
