Face Velocity Alarm Systems

Face Velocity Alarm Systems
The Model 1600 Alarm System contains a unique alarm sensor mounted in the window or door of our containment units.
The Model 1600 Alarm System contains a unique alarm sensor mounted in the window or door of our containment units. It provides continuous monitoring of air flow through each unit with both visual and audible alarms to alert users of abnormal air flow conditions.

The FS1600 is unique in many ways:

  • Face velocity is actually measured by air being drawn through the alarm itself within inches of the enclosure's opening.
  • The alarm immediately lets an operator working with a toxic material or potent compound know that there is a problem, long before extensive exposure.
  • The alarm can protect an entire laboratory by visually and audibly indicating (in advance) a problem in the laboratory's exhaust system.
  • A green light on the front of the alarm indicates normal air flow conditions by measuring actual face velocity. If air flow is interrupted and drops to an adjustable set point, a red light activates along with an audible alarm.
  • Safety Engineers or Industrial Hygienists can preset the alarm to sound at between .25 and 1.3 Meters Per Second (50 and 250 Linear Feet Per Minute), depending on individual laboratory standards.
  • Each Alarm System is powered by a 9 volt AC transformer that operates off 115 volts of electricity.
  • The company offers the Model 1600 Alarm System on most Vented Balance Safety Enclosures and Workstations. Older containment units can be retrofitted with the new alarm system by ordering a new door containing the alarm.
