Fluid Bed Rotor Processors

The Fluid Bed Rotor Processor utilizes a rotating disk and fluidization air

The Fluid Bed Rotor Processor utilizes a rotating disk and fluidization air. The rotating disk is located at the base of the product container. The edge of the disk sits against the wall of the product container. By raising the disk, a gap around the edge of the disk is formed. All airflow through the processing chamber passes through this gap.

During processing, the rotor relies on centrifugal product flow with a binder introduced tangentially to the particle bed. The rotating disk transports material toward the container wall. As air passes through the slit, the material is lifted upward into the expansion chamber. As gravity overcomes the air velocity and the material falls downward to the center of the disk. The cycle of material moving radially along the disk, upward into the expansion chamber and down to the center creates a helical pattern of material movement. Spray nozzles positioned tangentially in the wall of the process chamber are used in the application of binders and coating solutions.

The rotor process provides the ability to granulate, spheronize, coat and layer. Granules produced using this method are extremely dense and highly spherical. In coating and layering processes, the rotor provides for the application of high quality films and the ability to layer up to 800% weight gain.
