FMC Corporation, Lithium Div.
FMC Lithium Division is proud of our long record of environmental responsibility, and we continue to improve the environmental safety and cleanliness of our operations. Capital invested in environmental controls has grown every year and will likely continue to increase. We recycle as much of our process materials as possible, both for the sake of efficiency and to reduce environmental emissions.
Recycling Lithium Values
By-product streams are a concern throughout the chemical industries. Depending on environmental regulations and economics, large users of lithium - especially those using lithium metal - can sometimes recycle the lithium that might otherwise be wasted. We work with customers to evaluate the recycle potential of by-product lithium values. On occasion, we have made substantial capital investments in order to recycle by-product lithium into lithium carbonate. The investment of time and capital returns dividends by enriching our partnership with the customer, and underscores our commitment to environmental awareness.
Helping Minimize Hazards
FMC Lithium Division's MSDS and labeling efforts are but the latest chapter in a long history of helping customers understand and reduce the hazards of chemical handling. We believe proper equipment and personnel trained in safe handling techniques keep hazards to a minimum. This is especially true for butyllithium users for whom we supply exhaustive handling literature, videos, and on-site training to ensure safety at all stages of handling, storage, and use.
Research and Development
Throughout our history, we have been dedicated to research and development. FMC Lithium Division has thrived by constantly finding new markets and filling customer needs for lithium compounds. At our R&D and pilot-plant facilities in North Carolina, scientists and engineers research ways to improve lithium-extraction techniques, plant processes, and product quality.
