GlaxoSmithKline Medicines To Be Manufactured In VN

The Vietnam OPV Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd signed a deal with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a world leading research-based pharmaceutical company, on November 24, to produce GSK's high-grade products in Vietnam.

The OPV Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd's plant, which is located in the Bien Hoa Industrial Zone II, plans to introduce the first batch of GSK-branded pharmaceutical products to the local market in April 2006.

The prices for locally-made GSK drugs, which will be manufactured in strict compliance with international protocols, will be much cheaper compared to imports of the same kind.

The OPV Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. of the US first appeared in Vietnam as early as in the 1950s.

After a long period of interruption, the company made its return in 1993 with the construction of a 20 million USD project to build a pharmaceutical manufacturing establishment in Ho Chi Minh City's Bien Hoa Industrial Zone II.
