Glaxosmithkline Selects Nautilus Lims From Thermo Labsystems To Support Its Genetics Division Operations

The agreement covers software user licenses for Nautilus and services for the system's implementation, including consultancy, configuration, instrument integration and training. These services are being provided by Thermo LabSystems' Pathfinder global services group. The system is first scheduled to be fully operational in the area of sample management in February 2002. This will enable GSK to track more easily the progress of research projects, including the management of individual genetic samples from introduction in the laboratory through to the successful completion of the analyses and reporting of results.
GSK's Genetics Research required a powerful data management system that can efficiently process very high volumes of complex data. "During the evaluations, Thermo LabSystems demonstrated the ability of Nautilus to satisfy this requirement", said Joe Peden, Thermo LabSystems Business Development Director. "Plus the Nautilus system has the added advantage of easily integrating into GSK's existing laboratory instrumentation." GSK plans to use Nautilus to enhance its Laboratory Information Management Systems capabilities and improve operational and quality assurance efficiencies by automating a number of its laboratory processes.
Nautilus is Thermo LabSystems' latest LIMS, focused on improving laboratory productivity and reducing the cost of ownership of LIMS to customers. Launched in 1998, the development of Nautilus has benefited from a Joint Application Development (JAD) program involving a number of client partners from a variety of industries. This has helped ensure that the way Nautilus works fulfils the requirements of users to improve productivity. Nautilus features a complete suite of tools to enable customers to address compliance with US FDA Ruling 21 CFR Part 11, which concerns electronic records and signatures. With radically reduced implementation times and patent pending Workflow technology minimizing the need for customization, Nautilus is delivering a return on investment to many customers in fields such as Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical R&D, Forensics, Food and Beverage and Environmental services.
"We are very pleased by GlaxoSmithKline's decision", commented Mr. Peden. "It shows a high degree of confidence in both the Nautilus product and our ability to support the company's multi-national genetics operations. We look forward to working with GSK to meet its deadlines for a rapid and compliant deployment of Nautilus over the coming months."
