groninger is expanding: A new assembly hall and adjoining office complex are being built, covering more than 75,000 square feet. With an investment volume of over 30 million euros, it marks the largest single investment in the company’s history.

Crailsheim - The groninger Group is quite literally shaping the future: With the construction of a roughly 54,000-square-feet assembly hall and a three-story office complex covering around 21,500 square feet on its Crailsheim campus, the family-owned company is making a clear commitment to the location and responding to continued strong demand.

An investment of approximately €30 million is being made in this forward-looking project. It is the largest single investment in the company’s 45-year history and the second major expansion within just four years. Back in 2021, the groundbreaking ceremony for a new logistics center took place – also in Crailsheim – with an investment of around 20 million euros.

Strong demand drives expansion

“We’re fortunate to be experiencing steady growth. Our order volume remains strong, even though the intense momentum of recent years has eased somewhat,” explains Jens Groninger, CEO of the groninger group. “Our capacities are increasingly reaching their limits. The need for additional production and office space remains high.”

Construction officially began at the end of June. Earthworks are currently underway, with steel construction scheduled to start in January 2026. The building will gradually take shape, with completion and commissioning planned for mid-2027.

High standards for the new assembly hall

Expectations for the new facility are high: In addition to a flexible layout in the assembly hall that can adapt to changing production processes and workloads, key priorities include energy efficiency, sustainability, employee comfort, and smart infrastructure.

“Production space is a valuable resource. It must be used wisely,” says Jens Groninger. Today, smooth intralogistics are central to building design – even in production: short distances, well-timed parts supply from central logistics, and a solid material flow to ensure just-in-time production.

“The pharmaceutical lines we build in Crailsheim are getting larger – some production lines stretch for meters,” Groninger adds.

Sustainable construction – a commitment born of conviction

But it’s about more than efficiency. The new building reflects a corporate mindset rooted in responsibility. The goal is not just to create more space, but to use it responsibly, says Jens Groninger.

“I’m a father of four. I want to leave behind a livable world for my children and grandchildren. We don’t think in short-term cycles, but in generations – why should our construction projects be any different?”

One of the central questions during planning was energy efficiency and sustainability. As a family business, groninger places great value on future-proof solutions. “Our building plans follow standards that go far beyond legal requirements,” explains Michaela Groninger, wife of Jens Groninger and an architect responsible for coordinating all construction projects at the company. “For us, it’s a kind of self-imposed commitment that we gladly accept as part of our responsibility.”

The goal: to produce most of the energy needed for the building – electricity and heat – onsite. Heating and cooling will be provided by cutting-edge heat pump systems. The thermal energy generated will be stored in large stratified tanks. Additionally, a photovoltaic system is planned for the hall roof to power equipment with solar energy.

“The entire building’s technology is designed for maximum climate efficiency, while also providing ideal working conditions for our employees,” says Michaela Groninger. Ultimately, the new facility will be more than just an assembly hall: it will be a symbol of progress with responsibility – and a visible sign that groninger is shaping its future where its roots lie.
