Hyprotech launches complete shell and tube software solution

Heat Exchanger Design and Simulation Linked to HYSYS Simulation Software, TASC5 Combines Research-Based Thermal Design and Simulation with Mechanical Design
Hyprotech, a subsidiary of AEA Technology plc, announced the release of TASC5™ from its HTFS suite of thermal design and simulation software during the HTFS Updates Forum in Milan, Italy. TASC5 is a fully integrated software tool for thermal and mechanical design of shell and tube heat exchangers. TASC5 is the first product to combine authoritative research-based thermal design with mechanical design to ASME VIII. The program can be used for new equipment or re-rating existing plant. Linked to Hyprotech's HYSYS process simulator, TASC5 allows process design, exchanger thermal-hydraulic design and now mechanical design processes to be undertaken concurrently.

Fully integrating the internationally-respected thermal design technology of HTFS TASC with tested and proven HTFS MECHX, TASC5 enables the engineer to rapidly optimize exchanger geometry for both thermal performance and mechanical design constraints during a single session, without the need to re-key data. Where thermal and mechanical design departments need to work in closer harmony, TASC5 provides a cost-effective solution to complete continuity of data, without compromising the quality assurance or mechanical integrity that engineering specialists provide.
Tom Ralston, Hyprotech's HTFS business manager, stated, ``Release of TASC5 is a major milestone in the achievement of our vision to provide our customers with an integrated working environment throughout the design process and onward to the optimization of plant performance. Designer and operator can benefit from application of a consistent, rigorous thermal-hydraulic model of every heat transfer unit operation. Initial design and re-engineering costs are minimized by the integration of thermal and mechanical design. We aim to provide 'best in class' solutions at each step of the process lifecycle.''
TASC5 handles all TEMA shell and tube types, addressing the full range of shellside and tubeside processes for applications including: pre-heat trains, overhead condensers, feed-effluent duties, kettle reboilers, vertical- and horizontal-thermosyphon reboilers. Thermal calculations are extended to include reflux condensers and significantly improved methods for shellside or tubeside sub-cooling, in addition to improved HTFS methods for falling-film evaporators. This release of TASC incorporates the thermodynamics package familiar to HYSYS users, with a component database comprising more than 1000 substances. A wide range of industry-standard vapour liquid equilibrium (VLE) methods are offered as well as appropriate liquid and vapour mixing rules for thermodynamic and transport properties. The thermal operations of TASC5 now feature a fully interactive tube layout function that further enhances the geometric rigour applied to shellside modelling.
TASC5-Mechanical applies the ASME VIII Div 1 code for the design of exchangers up to pressures of 3000 psi (214 bar). The program contains an extensive database of ASME engineering materials that is maintained by HTFS. This is organized in an innovative system of user-defined groups to instantly specify material requirements for complete exchanger assemblies.
