Diagnostic Chemicals Limited (DCL) introduces its new i-MAbTM Monoclonal Antibody Production Kits for the small to moderate scale production (5-150 mg) of monoclonal antibodies (MAb). The i-MAb system, which utilizes a gas permeable bag to provide an environment for increased cellular viability, is a cost effective alternative to ascites and existing in vitro techniques. The kits offer the simplicity of T flask production with MAb yields approaching ascites titers. With the exception of a standard CO2/O2 incubator, the i-MAb system requires no additional laboratory equipment and is not reliant on mechanical motors, shakers, and spinners.

Worldwide interest in seeking alternative methods has necessitated the evaluation of in vitro techniques. Core hybridoma facilities and commercial antibody laboratories were provided sample i-MAb kits for evaluation. Beta site results indicate that the average yield (post-purification) from one 500 ml gas permeable bag is 36.9 mg, with a range of 2-102 mg. The i-MAb kits reduce incubator space and media requirements as well as produce highly functional antibody.
