Jaw Crimping vs. Rotary Crimping: Enhancing Aseptic Assurance

The adoption of advanced vial formats like polymer CZ and Corning Valor glass requires a re-evaluation of downstream processes, including crimping. Achieving a consistent, high-integrity seal on these materials is critical but can be challenging. A recent study by 3P innovation and 4D Molecular Therapeutics assessed the effectiveness of jaw crimping versus rotary crimping on these specific vial types. Using imaging and pixel-based analysis, the evaluation measured crimp quality and particulate generation. The data showed that rotary crimping delivered better lip engagement and significantly fewer scratches, especially on 2mL CZ and 6R glass vials.
