Kistler-Morse Adds Profibus-DP Interface for Communication Between Sono II and PLCs

By adding Profibus-DP (Decentralized Periphery) interface capabilities to its Sonologic II level indicator, they have shown a keen understanding of the customer's need to have precise and reliable digital connectivity to supervisory networks.

Profibus-DP provides the optimum combination of data throughput, ease of installation, simple maintenance, diagnostic capabilities, and error-free transmission to the PLC. The Profibus interface is designed to provide time-critical communication via a direct digital connection between the Sonologic II and a Profibus–DP network, and it can handle up to 126 devices simultaneously.

The Profibus-DP interface is a simple I/O that reports level data to the PLC. The relationship between the "master" device—the PLC, for instance—and the "slave" device—the Sono II—makes it possible to adjust settings and parameters on the level indicator either on the indicator itself or remotely from the PLC. This feature of the Profibus technology also allows the end user the flexibility to set a DP-slave device's address directly from the instrument's keypad or through the interface.
