Mallinckrodt Baker Introduces Line Of Polymer-based Chromatographic Ion Exchange Media
PhillipsBurg, NJ - Mallinckrodt Baker, Inc., a business unit of Tyco Healthcare, introduces a new line of BAKERBOND biochromatographic media designed to isolate, separate and purify proteins and peptides. Supported by a chemically stable polymeric backbone, BAKERBOND media supports usage from lab to process scale with relative ease. These products, along with Mallinckrodt Baker's existing versatile family of products with proprietary surface chemistry provide additional tools for demanding chromatographic separations.
BAKERBOND polymeric bioseparation media is specifically designed to provide mixed mode functionality for use with peptides and proteins and is based on appropriately cross-linked synthetic polymethacrylate spherical beads. The composition is selected to provide hydrophilicity and mechanical strength resulting in rigidity for use in packed columns, which can be operated at a pressure of up to 100-psi (7 bar) without damage to the beads. Linear velocity is rated at up to 1,200 cm/hr, depending upon the capabilities and adsorption kinetics of the columns.
Average pore size of the beads is 400-700Å, providing an exclusion limit of 106 DA. The average particle size is 30-40 µ with more than 80 percent in the range of 25-45 µ. The media is chemically stable with all commonly used aqueous buffers, sodium hydroxide, acetic acid, phosphoric acid, urea and guanidine hydrochloride, up to 100% ethanol, methanol or isopropanol.
The BAKERBOND polymeric bioseparation media consists of the following new products, with each product executing a specific bioseparation function:
BAKERBOND XWP 500 PolyABx-35
BAKERBOND XWP 500 PolyQUAT-35
BAKERBOND XWP 500 PolyCSX-35
BAKERBOND XWP 500 PolyPEI-35
