In 1908 a young engineer named Herbert Merrick developed the first dynamic weighing machine based on the idea of mechanically calculating gravimetric flow rates from belt speed and weight. Little did he realize that he would fundamentally change the way the world measured material flow.

Mr. Merrick began the Merrick Scale Manufacturing Company to produce his new invention. The company has been in continuous operation ever since. Although many new products would change the weighing industry over the next ninety years, Merrick has remained a driving force in the advancement of weighing and material handling technology with a full line of products from single idler belt scales to massive weigh hoppers and pressurized coal feeders.

In 1991, the company was purchased by Tannehill International Industries, Inc. and the engineering and design functions were integrated into the existing Lynn Haven, Florida facility.

MERRICK's 50,000 square foot facility in Bay County, Florida, houses both engineering & manufacturing interconnected by a modern MRP II management control system. The MERRICK facility has full, in-house capability including complete metalworking, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Stamps, certified welders, and USDA listing.

In 1994, Merrick opened a new service to the industry as MERRICK Environmental Technology, Inc. a full service supplier of air pollution control and dust collection equipment.

Today MERRICK enjoys one of the best known brand names in the industry with equipment all over the world. The very name MERRICK has long been associated with quality of engineering. Since our very inception in 1908, with the invention of the belt scale by Herbert MERRICK, our core business base is sustained by our world class engineering department.
