Miza Pharmaceuticals Acquires Optopics Laboratories

Miza Pharmaceuticals USA Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Miza Pharmaceuticals (Edmonton, AB, Canada), has completed its acquisition of the assets of Optopics Laboratories Corp. from NutraMax Products Inc. (Gloucester, MA).

Optopics Laboratories is a private label and branded manufacturer of eye care products, including contact lens and over-the-counter and generic prescription ophthalmic drugs, serving customers in the retail, contract manufacturing, and industrial first aid and safety markets. The company currently employs 86 people.

Miza Pharmaceuticals USA will manage and operate Optopics' 34,000 square foot facility, which houses two aseptic filling rooms, three packaging lines, warehouse, shipping areas, and offices.

The sale of Optopics is part of NutraMax's plan to divest their Ophthalmics Division in order to improve financial performance and to position NutraMax for future growth in its existing more profitable core areas.
