The multi-purpose, pilot scale, centrifuge module is especially suitable for the difficult demands associated with the biotech industry, including mammalian cell applications.

Central to the system is the Alfa Laval BTPX 205 solids-ejecting centrifuge. Operating at 12,800 G force, the centrifuge can handle a variety of biopharmaceutical separation tasks including whole cell harvesting, broth clarification and lysate clarification (cell debris separation). A noted feature of Alfa Laval Brewery Systems5 is its patented Disk Inlet. The optional low shear inlet provides a gentle feed zone for applications requiring high sensitivity handling.

This system is suitable for either clean in place (CIP) or sterilize in place (SIP) operation. Maximum sterilization temperature is 121° C with a saturated steam pressure of 1.3 bar. The separation system contains all necessary components for proper and safe operation of a validated biotechnology unit. Fully automatic controls ensure high degree repeatability for product consistency. The operator selects required sequences of the control program by communicating with the system via a keyboard and monitor integrated into the control panel. System controls permit monitored checks of the process operation, including sterilization temperatures and flow rates.

The system also includes an emergency stop function and safety equipment to protect the centrifuge against overpressure/vacuum during or after sterilization. All systems are manufactured in facilities that are in compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards.
