Intelligently Manages Multiple Environmental Conditions within Package Headspace

New York, NY - Multisorb Technologies, a solutions provider in active packaging technology, announced recently it will feature IntelliSorb™ – its customizable intelligent sorbent formulations – at Interphex 2011. IntelliSorb™ offers a steady-state or multi-functional control of moisture, oxygen, and volatilized organic compounds and is included in Multisorb's full line of Drop-In, Fit-In, and Built-In sorbent devices to meet the specialized and often complex needs of the healthcare industry.

Balancing the challenges of extending product shelf life with maintaining product reliability and integrity is key for manufacturers in today's competitive healthcare industry. As is often the case, multiple undesirable environmental conditions (e.g., free-moisture, oxygen, and volatiles) present within the package headspace must be successfully managed.

Multisorb Technologies' IntelliSorb™ sorbent formulations offer customized or multi-functional moisture, oxygen, and volatilized hydrocarbon control within drug product packaging or drug/device products. IntelliSorb™ sorbent formulations intelligently manage the packaging or device headspace by reacting to environmental changes that can cause product degradation.

Development of stable drug products is a difficult and lengthy process. When required, it is beneficial to incorporate the right sorbent solution into the early stages of the packaging design process. Multisorb's Quality by Design (QbD)based Calculation through OperationsSM program allows pharmaceutical manufacturers to quickly determine which sorbent solutions are required for a drug product's desired stability outcome.

Calculations through OperationsSM typically saves pharmaceutical manufacturers six to twelve months in development time by quickly improving the stability of drug products with a sorbent solution. The net effect is a more rapid Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) or New Drug Application (NDA) filing and earlier entry to market.

Multisorb's product development team can work with manufacturers' specifications, or if specific requirements are unknown, they can scientifically determine an optimized sorbent formulation for moisture, oxygen, and volatiles management based on drug characteristics, packaging materials properties, shelf life, and sorbent functionality. Using pseudo-empirical modeling, for example, can save thousands of dollars by eliminating sorbent ranging studies.

Drop-In
Drop-In sorbent solutions, such as StabilOx® Packets & Canisters, StripPax® Packets, and SorbiCap® Canisters, offer sorbents that are placed directly into the packaging presentation. As part of a system-based approach, Drop-In solutions are precisely inserted with Multisorb's Active-Pak Automation (APA) series of high-speed packet and canister dispensers – easily integrated into commercial packaging lines.

Fit-In
Fit-In solutions, such as Multiform CSF®, are compressed sorbents that can be custom shaped into a variety of configurations and fit directly into the drug product package or product device, therefore, eliminating loose sorbent packets and canisters. Because of the compressed form, they deliver greater moisture protection in the same dimensional space as traditional packets and canisters.

Built-In
Built-In solutions, such as PolySorb™ desiccant loaded polymers, integrate the sorbent properties right into an existing packaging or product device. This eliminates the need for any additional components in the product or packaging - making the sorbent invisible to the consumer.

IntelliSorb™ offers healthcare manufacturers the benefits of extended product shelf life through customizable sorbent solutions. Multisorb Technologies will be available at booth #3040 to discuss how an IntelliSorb™ solution can work for you.
