Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation, a manufacturer of sterile inhalation and 503B outsourcing medications, today announced a $12.5M expansion to add 36,000 square feet of manufacturing space. The new investment is expected to create 125 new jobs by June.

“The improvement of the facility will help us meet our commitment to solve the critical problem of drug supply shortages impacting healthcare in the United States,” said Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation CEO Lou Kennedy.

“Nephron Pharmaceuticals has been an excellent job provider and bastion of economic prosperity for Lexington County. Their new expansion is exciting and encouraging, as it means their good work will continue to produce positive results for people in our state, as well as nationwide,” said Lexington County Council Chairman Todd Cullum

This expansion is a result of tremendous growth in both the Nephron 503B Outsourcing Division, and the existing respiratory therapy drug portfolio. The Outsourcing Division of Nephron is one of the fastest growing 503B facilities in America. 30 new products have been developed in 2017 in an effort to solve the nationwide drug shortage crisis.

In October 2011, the company announced a $313M facility would be constructed in West Columbia, and 600 employees would be hired by 2017. To date, Nephron has invested more than $320M, and currently, 640 people are employed. After 20 years in Orlando, Fla., Nephron relocated its headquarters to South Carolina.
