Customer Problems
A Neutsch Filter (also called a pressure filter) is a very expensive, high yield filter used to recover valuable solids from a slurry after being crystallized or precipitated. The key to maximum recovery of the solids is to immediately detect when the liquor (liquid) has left the surface of the cake, otherwise the cake (solids bed) over-dries and cracks like mud in the hot sun. A crack in the cake causes the wash fluid to bypass the cake and become less effective in washing away the residual solvent. The cracking cake usually must be reslurried, which causes production delays and lost product when refiltered. As a minimum, a cracked cake requires more wash cycles, which washes the product down the drain.

Canty's Solution
Canty has been providing their patented Light / Camera combination for years onto Neutsch filters in explosionproof / flameproof areas to view the filters and watch the cake. With the addition of the Canty VECTOR image process controller we detect the cake as soon as liquid drains off the top surface, thereby preventing the cracking which causes lost production. No operator is needed to watch the cake and the system sets up in 1 batch run. In addition the phone modem connection provides full online support and by Canty engineering staff as needed without the cost and delay of travel to the site.

Equipment
The Canty Vector image processor, with 4-20 outputs and modem for on-line support. Canty Camera/Light Vision system for process viewing and image gathering for control.
