Optimizing Yield, Purity, And Scalability In A Cost-Effective Manner During Process Development
Daniele Vigo is Assistant Director at Cambrex Milan, Italy, where he manages a team of 15 researchers. He holds a Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from Università degli Studi di Genova, and is the author of 14 publications along with several patents and patent applications in organic synthesis and process chemistry.
His team develops cGMP API industrial processes — including highly potent APIs and continuous manufacturing processes — from route selection through to process validation. His expertise spans route selection and optimization, patent analysis, design of experiments, and custom development and manufacturing project management.
Asked how to optimize yield, purity, and scalability cost-effectively, Vigo points to instrumentation paired with statistical planning. Multiple automated reactors fitted with probes generate meaningful process data, while experiments planned by design of experiments build the process models and understanding his team needs from a deliberately limited number of runs.
