Pacific Scientific Instruments recognized for co-development of biological aerosol sensor

<%=company1%> (PSI; Grants Pass, OR) and Computing Devices Canada (CDC; Calgary, AB, Canada) were named as finalists for the 2000 North America Technology Partnership Awards. The honors recognize the top technology partnerships (joint ventures, strategic alliances, or partnerships) between two North American companies, one Canadian and one American.

PSI and CDC were nominated for co-developing the Biological Aerosol Real Time Sensor (BARTS), a real-time sensor for detecting airborne biological particles. Applications for the technology include: monitoring the airborne spread of disease-causing organisms in pharmaceutical facilities, hospitals, food processing plants, or large buildings; detecting biological agents in bio-warfare and bio-terrorist emergencies; and determining the mechanisms of spread of airborne particles.

The North America Technology Partnership Award was developed by the Canadian technology alliance CATAAlliance and the Washington, DC-based Canadian-American Business Council (CABC) to honor the top technology partnerships in North America. Judges from the United States and Canada, along with voters from both organizations' membership, selected the finalists—from a pool of 50 nominees—based on innovation and business growth. The finalists were announced at a Gala Dinner before an international audience of high tech CEO's participating in CATAAlliance's "GlobeTech@Greater Washington" conference in Washington, DC.

In addition to PSI and CDC, the other finalists for the award were:

  • CIBC/Hewlett Packard/Fiserv Inc.
  • CBS Corp./Nikolai.com Inc.
  • Synergy Networks/Unis Lumin
  • Crescent Studio.com/We Media Inc.
