Off The Shelf And Out Of The Box: Conference At PACK EXPO Features Sessions On Training That Fits Your Team
PMMI, owner and producer of PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2011 (Las Vegas Convention Center; September 26–28), and its educational arm, PMMI U, present two special Conference at PACK EXPO sessions that focus on ways to use employee training to build results in your plant.
Blended Learning Improves Plant Efficiency
Cosmetics giant Estee Lauder Cosmetics Ltd brought in PMMI U's consistent, repeatable online training to complement its site-specific training, and the result was a significant improvement in overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
"PMMI U's e-learning modules teach basic skills needed in all packaging and processing operations," says Maria Ferrante, vice president, education & workforce development, PMMI. "And when Estee Lauder combined its plant-specific training with this consistent, flexible educational tool, the result was a significant improvement in OEE. In this important session, managers from Estee Lauder will share how they blended PMMI U online learning with their own training program, and the results they achieved."
Carrie Robb, HR manager, learning & development, and Tanja Bostic, engineering supervisor, Estee Lauder Cosmetics Ltd., will lead this session on Tuesday, September 27 (Session T03, The Power of Blended Learning: Integrating Online and Traditional Training for Real Results).
"The program produces measurable results that supported Estee Lauder's own efforts. This is a must-attend session for anyone looking to improve the efficiency of their plant operations," Ferrante adds.
Mechatronics Certificates Can Help You Develop Your Workforce for Today and Tomorrow
"In the modern manufacturing environment, understanding both mechanical and electrical components is critical on so many levels," Ferrante says. "That's especially true with the rapid advancement of technologies used in packaging and processing operations. Having a skilled workforce is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers who want to stay ahead of the competition."
Consultant Keith Campbell, Campbell Management Services, LLC, and Kevin Lipsky, instructor at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College will lead a session focused on how industry and academia are teaming up to develop the skilled workforce of the future – and how nationally recognized credentials in mechatronics, a discipline created by the intertwining of mechanical and electrical engineering, can help you identify the right workers for your operation.
Campbell and Lipsky will discuss the critical skills needed for the workforce of today and tomorrow, how workers can obtain these skills and how employers can utilize tools —such as PMMI U's Mechatronics Certificate tests — to identify skilled workers.
"PMMI's online mechatronics certificate tests, developed and validated by industry subject matter experts, are key to promoting the skills required in manufacturing today," Ferrante adds. "These certificates help employers identify qualified workers and develop their existing workforce. The feedback we're getting shows how earning the mechatronics certificates is helping students get hired, because human resources departments already consider the certificates assets. This session will start you in the right direction towards developing your workforce of the future."
