Packaged Chocolate Reclaim Made Easy

Source: Quadro Engineering Corp.

A large confectionery manufacturer approached Quadro with an application to break open packaged chocolate so that the product contained within could be reclaimed. The packages had defects such as crooked, ripped or loose labels, which are rejected from the mainstream by Quality Control Inspectors. Original reclaim procedures were costly, time consuming and tedious – our Customer needed a more efficient solution. As the product within, a chocolate enrobed candy is very heat-sensitive, traditional mills could not easily reclaim the material.

The Quadro® Comil®, with special tooling, easily broke open the packaging material to allow the product to separate from the packaging. However, due to the low heat generated by the mill, the chocolate candy broke up into pieces without smearing or sticking to the screen or packaging, maximizing the yield on the reclaimed product. The packaging was easily vacuumed away, allowing only the reclaimed chocolate candy to pass through the mill to a salvage bin.

Ten (10) fully scalable Quadro® Comil® models are available for a variety of applications and depending on the product's characteristics, can range up to 54,500 kg/hr (120,000 lb/hr). Meets all international safety standards including OSHA, CE, ATEX.
