Case Study: Pfizer Eases Expansion With Building Management System
Pfizer Inc. is a leading global pharmaceutical company. Its R&D organization in the UK, Pfizer Global Research and Development (PGRD)—with a budget of $4.7 bn in 2001—is the largest in the industry. Pfizer discovers and develops innovative, value-added products designed to improve the quality of life of people around the world. When Pfizer expanded its production facility, it awarded the Building Management System contract to TAC.
Built in 1954, Pfizer's UK production facility at Sandwich needed to be expanded. TAC's involvement spanned five new buildings: B500 (Discovery), B509 (Development), B519 (Campus Gateway and central hub of operations), the Remote Plant Room and the West Site Services Building (a central warehouse).
Once complete the new facility will house around 2,500 Pfizer employees, making it one of the largest research facilities outside of the United States. TAC was chosen as a supplier because it could offer the development capability, product reliability and technical expertise to help Pfizer bring the building projects to fruition.
