PharmaDirections Invents Unique Packaging For Pharmaceutical Products

PharmaDirections, Inc. a drug development management firm, is pleased to announce they have filed an invention they developed for one of their clients. This is the latest in a series of 19 patents where PharmaDirections was an inventor or co-inventor on intellectual property developed for their clients.

Dr. Richard Soltero and Dr. Bruce Rehlaender are the co-inventors on a patent application entitled "A METHOD FOR STABILIZING ACIDIC AND ALKALINE LABILE PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS." The invention describes devices and methods of supplying acid or base stabilization for drug products through control of the container interior environment.

Many drug substances are subject to degradative reactions, such as hydrolysis and oxidation, and these reactions are frequently catalyzed by acid, by base, or by both. When base catalysis of drug degradation occurs preferentially or exclusively, the stability of the drug substance may depend on its being kept in a somewhat acidic (low pH) environment. Likewise, when acid catalysis occurs preferentially or exclusively, the stability of the drug substance may depend on its being kept in a somewhat basic (high pH) environment. In those instances where incorporating an acid or base in a formulation is not desirable, then introducing acidic or basic conditions through the packaging is an option that now had considered before. PharmaDirections, in cooperation with its vendors, developed an innovative system to accomplish this goal.

"We are pleased that we can play a role in establishing barriers to competition for our clients," says Dr. Rick Soltero, PharmaDirections Founder and President. "Our goal at PharmaDirections is to develop specialized formulations and to solve problems that go beyond our clients' expectations, no matter where they are in the drug product development process. When we invent for our clients, we assign the intellectual property royalty free to our clients as part of the value that we bring to then when we manage their drug development."
