Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Opens New $50-Million Singapore Plant

Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Inc. (RPR; Collegeville, PA), a pharmaceutical subsidiary of Rhone-Poulenc S.A. (Cedex, France), has opened a new $50-million manufacturing plant in Jurong, Singapore. The plant will produce enoxaparin sodium, the active ingredient in Lovenox/Clexane, a low-molecular-weight heparin.

The company also announced that it will take an option on an adjacent 4-hectare plot and will invest $15 million in the first and original facility at the site to create a dual purpose plant for nedocromil sodium and sodium cromoglycate. Both are active pharmaceutical ingredients used in a range of products for the treatment of asthma and allergic conditions of the eye and nose, including the Rhone-Poulenc Rorer products Tilade (nedocromil sodium) and Intal (sodium cromoglycate) for the treatment of asthma.

RPR employs over 100 people in Singapore. An additional 40 people will be recruited as a result of the investments in both the enoxaparin sodium and the dual-purpose facilities.

Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Inc. is a global pharmaceutical company dedicated to improving human health.
