White Paper: Scale Up Of Conical Screw Vacuum Dryers

The purpose of this paper is to present a practical simplification for the scale up of pilot plant tests to production size conical dryers. Tests in pilot dryers can give exact data on drying rates (especially drying rate shown over the moisture content or time) if carried out with clearly defined drying parameters. Process dryers and test machines therefore have to be of identical geometrical design to guarantee the similarity of the apparatus and the process characteristics. This case is presented for scaling up to a 10,000 liter production unit based on trials in a 30 liter size pilot unit.
