Solid drug compounds present a number of challenging analysis problems to pharmaceutical scientists. Once a likely drug has been found, it must be characterized to determine which form is the most stable and how much of it is crystalline and how much is not (in other words, is amorphous). In addition, it must be formulated (mixed with other solid and liquid ingredients) so that it can be formed into tablets, packaged, transported, and stored.
