The need to unmistakably track the history of pharmaceuticals has arisen mainly to battle counterfeit pharmaceuticals and consequently to guarantee the safety and traceability of each individual product right back along the whole production and distribution chain. Governments around the world are working to approve specific local laws with differences in each country.
