Siemens PETNET Expands Network Of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing And Distribution Centers
San Diego, CA - Siemens Medical Solutions with its subsidiary PETNET(R) Pharmaceuticals, Inc. recently announced the expansion of its Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Distribution Center (PMDC) to San Diego. The new location increases PETNET's ability to provide a reliable, local supply of PET products to Southern California and makes short-lived isotopes available to the area's significant biotechnology research community.
In addition to its comprehensive molecular imaging portfolio, Siemens is the world's leading producer and distributor of PET tracers. PETNET, Siemens' distribution channel for biomarkers, has the only national network of cyclotron-equipped Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Distribution Centers, reaching as many as 99 percent of all hospitals and imaging centers in the U.S. As the molecular imaging industry evolves, Siemens is expanding the PETNET network to meet the demands of the growing PET community. The new San Diego PMDC will serve as many as 10 facilities daily.
"Siemens Molecular Imaging Division has a mission to discover, develop and deliver molecular imaging clinical and research solutions," said Michael Reitermann, president, Molecular Imaging Division, Siemens Medical Solutions. "This strategic site strengthens our nationwide network of Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Distribution Centers and underscores Siemens' commitment to broadening the industry's capabilities."
Molecular imaging biomarkers - small tracers that monitor biological processes - enable the biological mechanisms of disease to be identified and understood. Results may help physicians determine personalized therapies for patients by pinpointing the active pathways in the disease progression.
