SmarTeam, Primavera to integrate project management, collaboration software

Smart Solutions Ltd., a Dassault Systemes company, and its Americas subsidiary, SmarTeam Inc., a leading provider of Web-centric, rapidly implemented business collaboration solutions, today announced that it has joined the Primavera Systems, Inc. Partner Program. Primavera is the leading developer of enterprise and Web-based project management, control and execution software. As a member of the Primavera Partner Program, Smart Solutions intends to work with Primavera to offer additional enterprise product/project management integration capabilities to manufacturers and their supply chains in many vertical industries such as automotive, facilities management, new product development, power/process and petrochemical industries. Integration between the SmarTeam collaborative product data management (CPC/PDM) products and Primavera project management solutions will enable users to improve overall project management processes and decrease time to market for new products.

SmarTeam customer Aalborg Industries www.aalborg.dk is reinventing itself to meet the challenges of global competition. In an initiative to reduce costs and shorten delivery time, the boilers and steam generators the company used to manufacture at one facility in Erie, PA, are now fabricated around the world through a supply chain, sub-suppliers, subcontractors, and extended enterprise partners. Design activities are similarly dispersed to different locations, with about half of Aalborg's detailed design graphics work now done off-site by others.

To speed up communication and collaboration in their extended enterprise, Aalborg is replacing outdated paper-based document procedures with a new "virtual office" environment where information in a central database will be accessed via a web-based system anywhere, anytime, by anyone: employees, supply chain sub-suppliers, subcontractors, and strategic partners as well as customers.

Aalborg has selected SmarTeam packages for managing its document control functions, and as a platform for its collaboration portal. The software is being tightly integrated with other systems to form the electronic enterprise envisioned by Aalborg: Oracle Applications for managing business data, Primavera for project management, and eTimeMachine for time/event reporting. SAR Associates, a Primavera Authorized Representative from Ontario, Canada, www.sarsystems.com is providing additional integration services for Aalborg.

The next step in Aalborg's vision for the virtual office is to exchange information with suppliers and customers online in real time, giving everyone in the company's extended enterprise direct, immediate access to authorized portions of the SmarTeam database.
