SPI acquires Beacon Specialty Ingredients

Source: SPI Pharma
<%=company1%> (Newcastle, DE) has purchased Beacon Specialty Ingredients (Grand Haven, MI), a provider of granulation, blending, milling, and re-packing services to the pharmaceutical, nutritional, and food industries. The acquisition gives SPI the capability to provide customers with custom granulation, blending, and packaging options. SPI also expects to invest in additional process capabilities at this site, including spray drying and encapsulation.

Beacon operates a large FDA registered, cGMP facility equipped with high shear and fluid bed granulators, extruders, blenders, and mills. SPI plans to use Beacon's capabilities to customize its ownofferings and create proprietary formulated products.

This acquisition is the culmination of a year-long product development partnership between Beacon and SPI, under which the companies developed a number of new "drum-to-blender" products for the nutritional and pharmaceutical markets, including granulated fiber systems, direct compression analgesics, direct compression sweetener systems, and chewable antacid powders. New products under current development include direct compression chewing gum as a delivery system and excipients for inhalation and quick dissolve systems.
