SPI Holding adds to pharmaceutical and food ingredients business

Source: SPI Pharma
SPI Holding Co. (New Castle, DE) has acquired the Polyols Business of Lonza Inc., a North American subsidiary of Swiss-owned Lonza Group. In 1999, Lonza Polyols had sales of $20.0 million.

Polyols are a key business for SPI Holding. Acquiring Lonza's polyols assets complements SPI's existing line of specialty polyols and its existing manufacturing site in New Castle, Delaware. It also increases the number of specialty ingredients SPI has to offer the market, and adds security and flexibility to the customer base that will result from having two manufacturing sites in the United States.

SPI Polyols has been manufacturing polyols since the 1930s. The acquisition of Lonza's polyols business fits into SPI's strategy to grow the business by increasing their product offering to the following strategic markets: pharmaceutical, sugar-free confection, food, and oral care.
