Spraying Systems Co. announces the release of the next generation of anti-bearding technology aimed at reducing material build-up on spray devices used in pharmaceutical spray-coating applications.

During spray-coating operations, such as tablet coating, the coating material being applied tends to accumulate on top of the spray device. This is commonly known within the pharmaceutical industry as “bearding,” and it can lead to poor uniformity of the coated product, process downtime due to clogged nozzles, and wasted coating material.

In response to this widespread problem, Spraying Systems has developed its new “P-Series” anti-bearding spray set-ups for its VMAU line of spray nozzles. The P-Series set-ups, which feature a new air cap with high-impingement fan jets and a reduced surface area, are able to perform the same spray applications for longer with less overall product accumulation and without clogging.

After extensive testing conducted by James P. Slavas of Spray Research, Inc., an independent lab, it was concluded that the new P-Series set-ups performed better under the same set of test conditions than the “earless” or “hornless” designs currently available and proved to be far superior to other technology . In addition, the new P-Series set-ups have a wider spray coverage and offer significant savings for end-users on process air consumption as well as material and maintenance costs.
