Integrated Biosystems, Inc.any%> is offering two basic cryopreservation technologies. The first is based on the use of patented stainless steel cryopreservation vessels. The product to be frozen is sterile filtered into the pre-sterilized freeze/thaw vessel. A recirculating cooling system is then activated and begins a precisely controlled process of removing heat through the vessel wall and the internal heat exchanger. At the heart of this unique freezing process is the ability to so precisely control the phase change from liquid to solid that the ice forms in highly organized, needle-like crystalline structures called dendrites. It has been shown that individual solutes are quickly embedded in their glassy states between the growing dendrites and are protected from degradation mechanisms such as aggregation, precipitation, oxidation, and denaturation, which are common in virtually every other approach to large scale cryopreservation.
