STERIS Corporation Launches The Reliance 400XLS And 500XLS Laboratory Glassware Washers

New washing systems provide superior performance with minimal energy consumption

STERIS Corporation announces the addition of the Reliance 400XLS and 500XLS Laboratory Glassware Washers to its line of laboratory glassware and plasticware washing systems. These new advanced high-performance systems are designed to help STERIS research customers better address their specific automated washing needs.

The research industry is under ever-increasing pressure to reduce energy consumption and operation costs. "Many of our customers are seeking LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)", says Marcel Dion, senior product manager for STERIS Life Sciences. "This is one of the reasons why they require reliable equipment that can consistently produce good cleaning results while using a strict minimum of utilities. Our new XLS washers use 54% less water than our previous high performance line. This has a huge positive impact on cycle time, detergent consumption and energy required to heat the water," says Dion.

"The 400XLS and 500XLS washers offer several innovative, ‘smart' energy conservation systems that can contribute to even more savings," adds Bill Warren, Director of Marketing for STERIS Life Sciences. "As an example, these washers can operate efficiently without the need to supply hot water to the unit. Also, the effluent can be cooled down without using a single drop of cold water. Even the heat coming from the exhaust and the effluent can be recovered and re-used."

"Our design goals were to reduce energy consumption and to enhance the overall performance and reliability of these washing systems. This was achieved by using the latest state-of-the-art technologies and incorporating new process monitoring systems," comments Dion. "Extensive performance tests were conducted to demonstrate superior cleaning, rinsing and drying with shorter cycle times, which ultimately means higher productivity."

The Programmable Logic Control system includes several preset and user definable cycles to accommodate the various soil conditions encountered in typical laboratories. The unique Universal Shelving System, combined with a wide variety of loading accessories, also provides all the flexibility required to process small and large pieces of glassware simultaneously, thus maximizing the use of the large wash chambers.
