Product Profile: Desiccant Packets

Source: Sud-Chemie Performance Packaging
Applications: Pharmaceutical, Nutraceutical, Diagnostic, Electronics, Food & More

What are they?
Desiccant packets are small sachets of desiccant clay, silica gel, molecular sieve or other absorbent products, aimed at protecting goods from moisture, odors and other harmful elements. Desiccant packets are available in singles, or in reels designed for automatic insertion.

Why use them?
Products vulnerable to moisture damage need special protection during storage and transport to ensure that they remain effective. Desiccant packets provide a simple, dependable and economical solution for preventing moisture damage in small, sealed packages. A popular desiccant configuration in the pharmaceutical industry, desiccant packets are also ideal for protecting nutraceuticals, diagnostics, electronics and food.

In addition to protecting products from moisture, desiccant packets are also effective at absorbing odors and other elements from the air.

Available configurations

Süd-Chemie provides a wide range of both reeled and individual desiccant packets.

Its Continu-Strip® Hole Punch Packets are continuous strips of Süd-Chemie's classic, effective packets wound on a reel for automatic insertion. A hole punch in the seal of each packet prevents line delays by ensuring that insertion machines make clean cuts every time. Continu-Strip packets can be used with any packet insertion equipment on the market.

Süd-Chemie's industry-leading desiccant packets wound on a reel for automatic insertion. A hole in the seal of each packet prevents line delays by ensuring that insertion machines make clean cuts every time. Continu-Strip packets can be used with any packet insertion equipment on the market.

Continu-Strip packets also feature Süd-Chemie's patented "invisible" splice technology, which creates a seal between packet reels without extraneous tape. The absence of extraneous tape prevents users from having to stop the line to remove the tape midstream, further facilitating efficient insertion.

Desiccant packets are packaged in either DuPont Tyvek® or GDT-II materials. Both are strong, durable and allow for extremely high absorption rates. Both also comply with FDA requirements for direct contact with food and drugs.

Süd-Chemie's desiccant packets are available in a variety of sizes, ranging from ¼ to 10 grams. Fills include Desi Pak® (bentonite clay), Sorb-It® (silica gel), Getter Pak® (activated carbon), 2-in-1 Pak® (silica gel or bentonite clay and activated carbon) and Tri-Sorb® (molecular sieve).
