Tablet Friability Tester: FT2
Datasheet: FT2 Tablet Friability Tester
SOTAX Product Catalog
The FT2 Tablet Friability Tester has a front loading system and a snap-lock knob holds the automatic dispensing drum in position. The anti-static drums are designed to engage with the drive to prevent any slippage. At test start, the drum is automatically positioned for tablet loading. The opening in the drum allows the tablets to be loaded without removing the drum. At the end of the test, the drum rotates to automatically discharge the samples into the tray used for weighing.
A 10° tilt of the drum is provided by an adjustment in the base of the instrument. This is used to prevent irregular tumbling, causing non-reproducible results. The drum is rotated by a maintenance-free drive with variable speed between 20 – 50 rpm. A report can be printed at the end of the test as per GMP/GLP requirements and includes the test parameters and time and date for the test performed. It also includes serial number of the instrument along with the entry fields for user name and product details. The special designed drive provides gentle starting and stopping of the drum.
Friability Test Description
The friability of tablets test is a method to determine the physical strength of uncoated tablets. The Friability Tester consists of a drum and a motor. The drum
is attached to the horizontal axis that rotates at 25 rpm. The tablets are weighed and placed in the drum. The drum rotates 100 times and the tablets are removed. Any loose dust or broken fragments from the tablets are removed. If no tablets are cracked, split or broken, they are weighed again and the friability is determined (percent of the lost mass with
respect to the initial mass).
