USFilter High-Purity Expert To Conduct Pharmaceutical Water Courses For ISPE

Gary Zoccolante, pharmaceutical technical director at USFilter, will be teaching two courses on pharmaceutical water as part of the 2005 ISPE (International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering) Philadelphia Training Series. The courses will be held on March 7-8 and 9-10 at the Crowne Plaza City Center in Philadelphia.

On March 7-8, Pharmaceutical Water Generation Systems, will cover the principles of design and operation of water systems used directly in pharmaceutical manufacturing, including those used to generate USP and non-compendial waters. Participants will examine methods for proper water quality selection, information on compendial and non-compendial waters, fundamentals of basic water chemistry, and information on common unit operations (deionization, reverse osmosis and distillation).

On March 9-10, Pharmaceutical Water Storage, Distribution, System Operation and Validation, will explore the fundamental concepts and principles of specification, design, installation, operation, testing and maintenance of equipment and systems used to store and distribute water in pharmaceutical manufacturing. It will also cover the elements of system validation. The course will emphasize operational and maintenance issues such as system testing and sampling for regulatory compliance.

Gary Zoccolante has more than 25 years of experience in the development and operation of high-purity water systems for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, cosmetics and semiconductor industries. He has been involved in the development and application of filtration, deionization, reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration equipment for pharmaceutical applications, and holds patents in water purification processes. Zoccolante was a member of the ISPE Water and Steam Systems Baseline(R) Guide Task Team, and is a frequent ISPE course leader. He has written several articles on pharmaceutical water system design, regulatory compliance and operation. Zoccolante earned his BSME from Northeastern University.
