Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) To Design Scalable Bioreactor Processes
Source: Cytiva
In this presentation, we will discuss practical approaches to bioreactor scale‑up, with a focus on how computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can be integrated with experimental characterization to support scalable bioreactor design. The talk will cover core scale‑up concepts such as power input, mixing time, oxygen transfer (kLa), and shear environment, and how to characterize these across scales using CFD modeling and experimental data. We’ll use Cytiva’s Xcellerex™ X-platform range of bioreactors as a case study in evaluating scalability from 250 mL to 2000 L.
