Micromertitics DVS (Dynamic Vapor Sorption) instruments provide accurate results with unsurpassed performance in vapor measurement.

DVS Advantage (Dynamic Vapor Sorption): Particulate System

DVS Advantage combines the best in microbalance, gas flow and vapor measurement technologies to deliver unsurpassed performance in terms of experimental design as well as instrument accuracy and repeatability.

Precise control of the ratio of saturated and dry carrier gas flows is enabled with mass flow control combined with the use of unique real time vapor concentration monitoring for both water and organics. Then a known concentration of the selected vapor measures the weight change caused by sorption or desorption of the vapor molecule. It is these dynamic flow conditions that enable the sorption/desorption process to be so rapidly studied.

The incredible sensitivity and precision of DVS Advantage enables the use of very small samples (typically 1 – 30mg) thus allowing equilibrium to be reached even more quickly. Safety being paramount, there is a fully
automated inert gas purge facility, and organic leak sensor system shut down interlock in the case of accidental organic vapor release.

DVS Intrinsic: Dynamic Vapor Sorption System

The water sorption properties of solid materials are recognized as critical factors in determining their storage, stability, processing and application performance. Ttraditionally these properties have been evaluated by storing samples in sealed jars containing saturated salt solutions of established relative humidity and then regularly weighing these samples until equilibrium is reached. However, there are a number of disadvantages associated with these manual jar methods, including:

  • The prolonged period of time taken for the samples to reach equilibrium
  • Measurement errors associated with the required removal of samples from storage containers for periodic weighing
  • The inability to measure the kinetics of water sorption/desorption uptake and release in real time+
  • The risk of mould formation or other sample contamination
  • The highly labour intensive nature of the process increasing operational costs and diverting productive use of skilled scientist and technician time.

As an alternative, the DVS Intrinsic is a highly sensitive, accurate and rapid means for automated determination of moisture sorption properties of solids. The DVS Intrinsic is fully automated, under the control of the DVS-WIN software package supplied with the instrument, providing a flexible and easy to use interface for setting up and running moisture sorption/desorption experiments.
