WuXi PharmaTech Opens New HPAPI Processing Facility In Shanghai

WuXi PharmaTech announced in a press release that it has opened a new facility in Shanghai for high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredient (HPAPI) processing. WuXi’s subsidiary, Syn-The-All Pharmaceutical Co. is now processing small molecules at kilogram scale for clinical-trial supply.
Dr. Ge Li, Chairman and CEO of WuXi PharmaTech, said, "With the increasing use of HPAPIs in drug discovery and development, this new service augments WuXi's ability to provide highly efficient and cost-effective solutions for our partners worldwide.”
WuXi Facilities
WuXi has several facilities for its outsourcing operations. Its HPAPI facility, the Syn-The-All Pharmaceutical Co., is located in Jinshan District West in the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. WuXi has a R&D center in Shanghai and a R&D center in Tianjin.
Earlier in May, the company announced that construction was complete on a new biologics biosafety testing facility in Suzhou. Recently announced in a press release, the Suzhou toxicology facility received a statement of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) from the Belgium Scientific Institute of Public Health after successfully passing three GLP inspections. The 38,000 square foot facility is adjacent to WuXi's preclinical drug safety facility.
WuXi Collaborations
Recently, WuXi entered into a partnership with Targos GmbH, a clinical biomarker service provider. The two companies have agreed to collaborate on bioanalytical work, analyzing and validating tissue biomarkers in cancer. WuXi stated that Targos’ expertise, pathologists, and histo-technologists could add to WuXi’s cell and tissue biomarkers services.
In April, WuXi announced that it had signed on with TruTag, an authentication solution to foil drug counterfeiting. The TruTag security platform provides brand protection and enhanced traceability of medicines. Its platform uses spectrally coded silica microtags that contain a unique code. The code is scanned with TruTag’s proprietary devices. The tags are biologically inert, heat-resistant, and almost invisible “edible bar codes.”
