Key design factors for legibility include font choice, scale, and clarity. Sans-serif fonts with open peninsulas and large islands improve recognition and prevent issues like “picking” during manufacturing. Tablets with fewer, larger characters are generally easier to read, and light-colored tablets enhance contrast and visibility. Shadow depth, shaped by stroke angle and width, enhances readability.

Debossed angles between 30°-40° balance contrast with manufacturing ease; deeper strokes improve visibility, especially on non-film-coated tablets. Film-coated tablets, however, require optimized stroke depths to prevent illegibility due to coating thickness, calculated by tablet weight and density.
