Traceability: the keyword of the pharmaceutical industry over the last few years, with serialization as the first core concept. The idea behind serialization is that each individual saleable product is provided with a unique code which, when scanned, provides all the crucial information about this particular medicine – including the manufacturer, Global Trade Identification number (GTIN) and expiration date.
Although most current legislations concerning traceability of pharmaceutical products focus on serialization rather than aggregation, the latter is an essential component of internal and external traceability of your products. Aggregation is the logical next step as well as the next business opportunity, as it vastly increases efficiency throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain.
