Single-Use Bioprocessing Systems: Comparison To Conventional Fixed Bioprocessing Systems
Bioprocessing systems using single-use technologies (SUTs) offer tremendous advantages from buffer and media preparation through filling and shipment, and from laboratory-scale to large-scale production. However, the environmental sustainability of SUTs has been called into question do to the need for waste disposal at end-of-life.
Several life cycle assessments (LCAs) have been conducted to investigate and characterize the environmental impact of SUTs over their life cycle compared to conventional fixed systems, leading to results that could inform the future of bioprocess system use. The benefits of single-use systems in edition to these environmental insights provides a picture of the advantages customers could see in switching to SUTs.
